The Périgord (the former name of the county which is now the French ‘département’ of the Dordogne, in the Aquitaine region), is divided into four areas, each represented by a different colour. The green of the meadows and the light oak and chestnut forests give their colour to the Périgord Vert. The white limestone soil give its name to the Périgord Blanc. Dark oak and truffles provide the colour inspiration for the Périgord Noir and, finally, the Périgord Pourpre evokes the purple hue of the vine leaves in the autumn.
